Our Work
Akshaya Patra in Chhattisgarh operates from its centralised kitchen in Bhilai. The kitchen began functioning in January 2009, and today feeds over 23,000 children across 160 schools every day. The highly mechanised kitchen which is equipped with the latest cooking machinery is ISO 22000:2005 certified, and maintains the highest standards of hygiene and efficiency in its daily operations.
Akshaya Patra aims to eliminate classroom hunger in India. The Foundation works towards this with the support from the Government, corporates, philanthropic donors, volunteers and other supportive agencies. In order to provide food for education to the underserved children of India, Akshaya Patra ensures that it maintains the highest standards of quality in the mid-day meal programme, and works towards sustained growth.
The Foundation achieves this growth not just in reaching out to more children across India with the mid-day meal programme, but through technological innovations, continuous quality improvement, utilising state-of-the-art equipment and much more.
In order to combat the problem of classroom hunger in India, Akshaya Patra's mid-day meal programme must reach out to children all across the country. To fulfil its mission of feeding 5 million children by 2020, Akshaya Patra requires the support of everyone interested. Therefore Akshaya Patra understands the need to be highly transparent in its operations, and provide easy access to its financial and intellectual property. Through this the Foundation aims to build trust in its stake holders and inspire participation amongst those interested in the Foundation's cause.
